The Town of Gilbert, in partnership with the
Gilbert Historical Society and the
American Legion (Merrill-Mitchell Post 39) , will be
holding its annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 on the
lawn at the Gilbert Municipal Center to honor and
recognize our local Veterans. The guest speaker for this year's ceremony
is Colonel Aaron Vangelisti, Operations Commander, 161st Air Refueling Wing, Arizona Air National Guard.
This year's event is being held in co-operation with the
Higley Unified School District's
Veteran's Day Event
which is being held on Tuesday, November 9th, 2010 at Higley High School Stadium.
The Mesquite High School Band will start playing patriotic music at 11:00 AM.
The ceremony will begin at 11:30 AM and last for approximately 30 minutes.
Following the ceremony, a complimentary lunch will be served to all in
attendance. Everyone is invited to attend.
Speaker Biography
Col. Vangelisti began his career when he enlisted as a KC-135 Crew Chief with the Arizona Air Guard, Phoenix, Arizona on February 12, 1987. Upon earning his degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, he attended the Air National Guard Academy of Military Science and was commissioned in May 1990. After graduation from pilot training at Williams AFB, Arizona, in 1991, he served as a KC-135E/D/R Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) copilot and aircraft commander with the 168th Air Refueling Wing, Alaska Air Guard, Eielson AFB, Alaska until May 1996. Col. Vangelisti then accepted a pilot position with the Arizona Air Guard where he serveduntil his assignment to the 939th Air Refueling Wing, Portland, Oregon. In November of 2004 he assumed command of the 64th Air Refueling Squadron, Portland, Oregon and served until his assignment to Special Operations Command Pacific. In June 2008 he was assigned as Vice Commander, 927th Air Refueling Wing, MacDill AFB, FL.
